Governor Signs Chiu Bill to Boost Affordable Housing Production

Law will maximize affordable housing funding by allowing developments to be denser and taller

Los Angeles, CA—A bill authored by Assemblymember David Chiu (D-San Francisco) to boost affordable housing production in California was signed by Governor Gavin Newsom today. Assembly Bill 1763 will allow for taller and denser 100 percent affordable housing developments through the creation of an enhanced affordable housing density bonus. 

Chiu Bill to Provide Emergency Financial Aid Signed By Governor

Law will provide emergency grants for students with unforeseen financial hardships

Sacramento, CA--A bill authored by Assemblymember David Chiu (D-San Francisco) that would provide community college students with emergency financial aid was signed by Governor Gavin Newsom today. Assembly Bill 943 would allow community colleges to administer emergency grants to help stabilize students in financial crisis in order to continue their education.

California Renter Protection Bill Passes Senate

Proposal to combat housing crisis by protecting renters from large rent increases and unfair evictions advances

Sacramento, CA--A major renter protection bill aimed at keeping struggling California tenants in their housing passed the Senate floor today by a 25-10 vote. Assembly Bill 1482 would cap annual rent increases and give renters added eviction protections.

Sacramento, CA--Three bills authored by Assemblymember David Chiu (D-San Francisco) to address California’s housing crisis passed the Assembly Housing Committee today. The bills would create a Bay Area regional housing entity, fund affordable housing projects through tax increment financing, and boost affordable housing production across the state.
