Chiu Bill Provides Emergency Financial Aid to Community College Students

Monday, May 8, 2017

(Sacramento) – Assemblymember David Chiu (D-San Francisco) wrote Assembly Bill 1468 to give Community College officials proper authority to use funds to provide students with financial assistance when an unexpected emergency situation arises that could force the student to drop out. “All of us know that college students face intense levels of financial insecurity and there’s an epidemic of hunger and homelessness on college campuses,” said Assemblymember Chiu. “AB 1468 would help community colleges retain students by allowing small grants to those students who would otherwise be forced to leave school due to the immediate and unforeseen need for shelter or food.” Here’s more in this Assembly Access video.
