Assemblymember David Chiu Statement on Janus v. AFSCME Oral Arguments

Monday, February 26, 2018

Sacramento, CA — Assemblymember David Chiu today issued the following statement regarding the beginning of oral arguments in Janus v. AFSCME, a case being heard before the U.S. Supreme Court:

“Throughout U.S. history, the labor movement has been responsible for the major advances of our middle class and working families.  Over the years, we have seen Republican attempts to weaken labor, while inequality has skyrocketed in our country.  As the Supreme Court considers Janus v. AFSCME, we must remember that this is yet another attempt to weaken the middle class and ensure unions do not have the resources to represent workers.  Whatever the outcome of the case, California will stand with the working men and women who make our economy strong and fight to strengthen the labor movement in our state.”
