April 2015 Newsletter

Tuesday, April 14, 2015 - 00:00

I hope everyone is enjoying our spring season. April is a busy month in Sacramento, with committee hearings in full swing. In my newsletter, you can read about the legislation I'm championing to help improve the lives of San Franciscans and all Californians.

I also want to let you know about Office Hours I'm holding in North Beach on Friday. Hope you can make it!

Sincerely,

Dear Friend,

As the legislative session begins in earnest, I’m pleased to share with you some of the key bills from my 2015 legislative package. My top priority in the Assembly is to attack the affordable housing challenge that we are facing in San Francisco. As we see a significant shortage of affordable housing up and down California, we need to direct more resources to reverse this disturbing trend. You can also read below about bills I’m supporting to improve the lives of working families and to increase access to life-saving, but costly medications.

I’m also honored to be authoring two bills to make sure that our LGBTQ communities are fully counted under state law. The first piece of legislation would require California to collect data on our LGBTQ communities to identify disparities in health care, fair employment, housing and social services so we can address gaps in how we serve our communities.  A second bill will clarify the parental rights of LGBTQ families.

Please check back on my website for updates on my legislation and upcoming events in San Francisco. As always, contact my office through my website or at (415) 557-3013 if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Chiu Signature

IN THIS NEWSLETTER

Dear Friend,

In our inaugural Assembly newsletter, I want to thank all of you for your support and counsel.  As your new Assemblymember, I'm honored to serve you – whether to help you navigate state services, to champion issues in Sacramento that reflect our shared values, or to provide information on how legislation from Sacramento impacts San Francisco and California.

My first action in office was to introduce legislation that will help preserve and create much-needed housing for our lowest-income residents because affordable housing is one of my top priorities in Sacramento. You can read more about my bill in this newsletter. I'm grateful that Speaker Toni Atkins appointed me to be part of her leadership team as Assistant Speaker pro Tempore, which means I will preside over a number of Assembly floor sessions this year.  I will also serve on the Assembly Budget Committee, Health Committee, Housing & Community Development Committee, Judiciary Committee, and Local Government Committee. I look forward to working with my new colleagues in the State Legislature on issues critical to all Californians.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns, through my website or by calling my district office at (415) 557-3013.  As I did on the Board of Supervisors, I plan to communicate regularly through our newsletters, and appreciate your feedback, suggestions and announcements for future issues.

Sincerely,
